Monument Design and Build were commissioned by an existing client to develop a bar / café / shop experience that would transform a vacant retail unit in the bustling market town of Morpeth.

When the client took the opportunity to secure the sought-after location, they did not hesitate to put their confidence in Monument to deliver on time, and in style.

With the lease signed, Monument had 4 weeks from appointment to flipping the open-close sign so our client was ready for Christmas. Merrily, and stylishly, the doors opened to customers in late November 2021.

With little creative direction and lots of commercial pressure, our interior designers and build department quickly got to work. Over a challenging 4-week period, our teams put together the necessary thinking and detail that meant we could procure and construct a variety of elements to realise our ambition for the space.

Practically speaking, all health and safety information required under the Construction Design and Management Regulations was supplied as soon as we were commissioned. This ensured the client complied with their duties under the regulations.

Detailed programming and phasing of both employed staff and subcontractors was carried out. This ensured that the works progressed well and all trades could function effectively and safely. Vital for all projects, but even more so in such small work areas with little or no space for storage of plant and materials.

“Monument went above and beyond in all areas to get the job done in a ridiculously unrealistic timescale and with a constantly changing spec. There was very limited time to plan, so it was essential they had the expertise and creativity to adapt as problems with the building were uncovered throughout the project. We were amazed at what was achieved within 4 weeks.”
