The properties occupy a beautiful private plot in a leafy suburb on the outskirts of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Initially you could mistake the buildings as being one but the plot consists of two separate dwellings with mirrored layouts, each originally benefitted from very generous rooms with the exception of the kitchen and dining areas.

Monument were engaged to transform these spaces internally and externally by adding a 190 square meter extension to the rear with the interiors both having very different briefs and outcomes. Each space was developed for the whole family with social living in mind incorporating large sitting areas and views into the gardens. The interiors are starkly contrasting, one focussed on a light pallet in a classic design and the other on a dark pallet in an ultra sleek and modern design.

Externally, we successfully engaged with the host property as it was a request from the client that the extension should not be dissimilar from the existing mews development. The principal living spaces are lit with 6 by 3 metre bespoke roof lanterns and generous windows flooding the area with large skies and natural light. We spent a great deal of time with both clients to produce a design that allowed contrasting interiors sit harmoniously with the matching exterior.
